Gopro session manual11/6/2023 ![]() HindSight is also not really an option for me - another feature you can look at. I use Hero11 to record my daily bicycle commutes (15 minute sessions max) and do not rely on Looping. That being said, you would not be the only person to use a GoPro as a dash cam, if you so choose - if you can live with the drawbacks. If you need a dash cam, you should buy that instead. Quality footage comes with a price, especially due to the form factor of the cam. Depending on your settings, setup and environment, a Hero11 might overheat quickly and shut down. Dash cams usually record for long periods of time without problems because they are specifically designed to do so. This is unlike most dash cams I know - they record everything all the time, just in case some event happens that needs to be reviewed later. With an action cam you are kind of expected to create unforgettable beautiful footage each time you hit record. To make this resemble a dash cam, you'd have to format the SD card prior to hitting record each time, which is not "set and forget" like it is for dash cams (they usually work as if there's only one session possible, no matter how many times you've hit record).Ī reason for an action cam lacking a feature like this is so that you don't lose any valuable footage. Only files/chapters that have been created within the same session may be overwritten. Looping is designed so that each time you hit record you start a new session (for lack of a better word). When I setup my Hero11 like you suggested, I get several files that together form five minutes of video, because with these settings, chapters are actually one minute video chunks - each its own file on the SD card. The interval is actually a sliding window that slides through chapters. This interval is not the same as a chapter. If you use Looping with a 5 minute interval, you are instructing the cam you want a roughly 5 minute long clip when you stop recording no matter how long you've actually been doing so - unless you stop before the 5 minute limit. So what buttons do I have to press? It's not clearįrom your link: "The interval determines the approximate length of video that you'll have after you stop recording." Your camera will loop back and record over the start of the video
